I had the best vacation of my life in Cancun! We stayed at the Hilton, right on the beach, and upgraded for $26 more per night to a room on the end with a gorgeous balcony complete with JACUZZI.
(note to self: you someday need to have a place with an outdoor jacuzzi and an outdoor shower)
spent 8 hours at the airport in Mexico City. was our gate open? no. was security open? no. did we have to wait at the food court in the open air lobby for 4 hours? yes.
tried to nap but was WAY too excited to sleep!!!
best mexican food, beautiful weather, and trevor insisted on my relaxing. no internet access on purpose, whenever I mentioned anything aside from plans to chill out, the answer was " aren't you on vacation? they can deal with it" I LOVE THIS MAN!!!!!
spent a day on a tour to Chichen Itza, and saw feral dog families, slums, and "houses" made of sticks and cinder blocks. Any time in the future that I am feeling selfish or cranky, I need to remind myself of what I saw, because these people as a whole don't have a say in their way of life. They live off of the tourist industry that trucks in to see the ruins, trample on everything, and treat the natives like shit.
to be fair, there's only so much of "onedollaronedollaronedollar" that your average tourist can stand before getting cranky.
got to swim in a CENOTE (wikipedia word for the day) !!!!!! took a billiondy photos, soaked away the evening in the hot tub with wine and watched the stars for a while.
Spent the entire next day lounging - by the pool, witnessing the most epic game of Marco Polo in history, with drinks from the swim up bar, down by the beach by the waves and the PELICANS!!!
shopping the next day, lots of walking, lots of amazing mexican foooooooood that i already miss.
best. vacation. of my LIFE!!!
xoxo
